about

The tree in this song is very much like the tree on the front of the album. Except I took the picture from the wrong side and from below, so its what I imagine it would look like if you were sat under it on the other side.

Tree is the story of a day out. Nothing really happens, but its just a bloody nice time. The characters go out for a ride to the old oak tree on the other side of town (like a soppy american romance right??), make some grass chains, watch the clouds, dig a hole, sing a song. And just exist together in that moment.

It's lovely. In my head.

At a time when we're forced to not do very much, I think this song highlights the value that you can get by taking a bit of time to breathe and exist in the moment. Maybe this will teach us all to make more time for it in the future.

lyrics

Lyrics
Take a fall from style
Take a fall from grace
Take a fall for me
And we'll find a different space

Take a ride with me
We'll see the other side
We'll touch the old oak tree,
And we'll sit beneath its leaves

You can make a ring
And I'll just sit and smile
And think of all the things
We can do with our time

We can watch the clouds
We can watch the rain
We can dig a hole
And bury anything

We can write a song
And sing it to the tree
Noone else can hear
Its floating in the breeze

Yeah I'll make time, for this
And I'll make time, for you
And I'll refine, for you.
